Meet the Team

Founder & Executive Director
Marie Taylor
Growing up with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) and intellectual disability, and being a mom to a son with disability, Marie brings a deeply personal voice to her work. She knows the pain of being judged, dismissed, or made to feel less than—and how much that can isolate. Driven by her life experiences and determination, Marie established Special Opportunities Organization to be a source of hope, empowerment, and belonging for individuals with disabilities, their families, and their communities. Her vision is a sanctuary where individuals are listened to, respected, and cared for without being denied entry. Through this company, Marie is committed to ensuring that every person who walks through the door exits more confident, more powerful, and loved more than when they entered.

Vice President
Ranesha Ahmad
In my position as Vice President of the Special Opportunities Organization, Ranesha Ahmad passionately advocates based on personal experience: I came to this nonprofit because it seemed a great avenue for giving a voice to many who have been living with disabilities-just like myself-and often go unheard. As a mother to children with disabilities, I understand firsthand the obstacles families encounter and the resilience required to overcome them. My commitment is rooted in turning those lived experiences into action—supporting others, creating opportunities, and building a stronger, more inclusive community where every voice matters.
